PRELIM ACTIVITY

180 DEGREE RULE

During the stages of the prelim project i learnt many rules in order to film properly. one of those rules was the 180 degree rule. The 180 degree rule is an invisible axis between the camera and the actors/players being filmed. The camera will always stay on one side and the players on the other. if the camera crosses the line the actors will  switch position. This would be noticed by the audience and be confusing as the camera is seen as the audience/ viewer in the scene.

MATCH CUT

A match cut is also known as match on action, this is a type of edit. Match cuts help achieve continuity editing because they make movement or action appear seamless so the viewer follows the action rather than realising an edit has just taken place. Match cuts always use camera shots from different camera angle or shot distance. i used many match cuts in the short film and i think i was most successful with doing it because it crated the scene more interesting.

PLANNING

Within planning we used a storyboard. the storyboard contained shots and scenes within the short film and dialogue. The storyboard helped plan the film because that was the first base that we started off with and there was no need to improvise as the storyboard had everything included. This helped us with time as we had enough time to shoot our scenes.

SHOT REVERSE SHOT

within shot reverse shot we used the 180 degree rule. i shot the scene with the conversation following as it was from shoulder to shoulder on the same side of the axis. we used the shoulders to show no sign of confusion as the actors were on the same side.

TO IMPROVE:

use the tripod as with free hand it is obvious and the camera is not always straight.
