RESEARCH- The four different types of film opening

Titles on a blank screen
Historically, this is the most common type of of title sequence
It involves different kinds of  type face on a black background, usually on a white typeface is used on a black background to create a high contrast. Studios use them because they are low budget. They can offer a simple, uncomplicated way to include credits.
Films that use a blank screen are; Pulp fiction

Titles on still images
Historically, title credits are developed to include hand drawn borders and other images.
The development of titles are accompanied by still images.
It requires a combination of different media to combine the background.
The use of still images accompany the credits to introduce the tone of the film.
The film that uses titles on still images are: Wimbledon

Titles over moving images
Incorporates the credit titles with moving image behind the titles, sound and usually dialogue.
Metaphor and narrative thread is used.
It helps to introduce the tone or story lines of film to the audience
The films that use titles over moving images are: Rear window and City of God

Titles using animation or motion
Requires a lot of digital technology and stylized editing.
They extend beyond the most commonly used methods of frame-by-frame footage and animation. Computers are capable of calculating and randomizing changes in imagery to create the illusion of motion and transformation. Computer animations can use less information space (computer memory) by automatically tweening, a process of rendering the key changes of an image at a specified or calculated time. These key poses or frames are commonly referred to as key frames or low CP. Adobe Flash uses computer animation tweening as well as frame-by-frame animation and video.
The films use titles with animation or motion are: Casino Royale and Catch me If you can.

My favourite type of title sequence is the animation and motion because it is simple but clever and it adds a positive vibe to the rest of the film. In many cases animations is used to attract the young audience but i like the way it flows and how it gels together.
