RESEARCH - Analysing 3 title sequences

Analysing 3 Romance Movies

Legally Blonde:

Micro Elements:
During the opening scene, there are a lot of close up shots of objects such as her hairbrush and perfume etc and of peoples faces.  The camera is following a letter with the name 'Elle' on it which informs the consumer of the main characters name.  The shots last long and the title credits are pink and flashy which gives an indication of what genre the movie is - romance and a chick flick.  The credits are infront of moving images from the movie.  The characters shown in the movie have summer clothes on, its set on a school campus as there are loads of teenagers, cheerleaders.  The music in the background is the films original song and it is catchy which gets the consumer in the mood for the movie.

Macro Analysis:
The key plot idea that is introduced in the title sequence is that the girl is getting ready, she's a typical barbie girl while a letter is being passed around with her name on it.  The movie starts from when she's at the school campus in a house full of girls.  The main character is introduced by having Elle Woods at the start of the title sequence which shows her in her bedroom getting ready - shows her personality by her clothes and how she acts.  The social group/s that are presented is bunch of teenage girls.

The fault in our stars:

Micro Analysis:
The title sequence starts with a close up of her eyes and the narration automatically begins which indicates that the movie is in the girls point of view - the movie is based on her life.  There are no special effects and there are no credits at the start of the movie, only the distribution company, production company and title of the movie is shown at the start.  The movie is set in various places as there are loads of little clips from the movie behind her narration, but there is an obvious couple which tells the audience that the movie is going to be romantic.

Macro Analysis:
The key plot that is introduced in the title sequence is that there is a girl and boy who are obviously in love.  The storyline is introduced by her in hospital talking to a doctor about her illness.  Two main characters are introduced - a girl and a boy.

The Notebook:

Micro Analysis:
The movie starts off with an establishing shot of the area that may occur in the movie again.  In front of the establishing shot, the credits start with the actors/actresses names and then the title is revealed. The music is slow and gentle which indicates that it is a romance movie.  No characters are introduced in the movie as it is just shots of the setting near a lake/beach.  The shot changes don't come frequently which indicates that the movie isn't going to be full of action.

Macro Analysis:
An older woman is shown in the opening title sequence which indicates that the movie may be about older love and not aimed at teenagers, but young adults etc.
